YOUR LOCATION CHANGES THE QUESTIONS

What changes a San Ramon sewer repair plan?

Your San Ramon sewer repair plan needs the correct sewer authority, a defined work area and the applicable permits. Check the property address before approving the scope.

Local guidance checked October 13, 2026. Confirm current requirements with the relevant agency before work begins.

Local service information is not an office address or a claim of a completed project. Confirm your property, requested service and appointment availability before booking.

01

Confirm the sewer district for your address

Central San and Dublin San Ramon Services District, or DSRSD, serve different parts of San Ramon. A water-service bill alone does not establish sewer jurisdiction. In Dougherty Valley, DSRSD provides water while Central San owns the sanitary sewers.

Use the districts’ service-area information and confirm the address with the agency before planning the work. Do not assign a sewer district from a city name or ZIP code alone.

02

Identify the private lateral and permit scope

Both districts’ homeowner guidance places responsibility for the private lateral from the home to the public main on the property owner. That can include pipe beneath the sidewalk and street. Shared lines and association-managed properties need their own responsibility check.

Central San requires a separate permit for exterior sewer work in its jurisdiction. DSRSD directs its sewer customers to a Limited Construction Permit for lateral repair or replacement. Ask who will obtain the applicable permits, arrange inspections and supply the completed records.

03

Check street and sidewalk work separately

San Ramon requires an encroachment permit for work in the public right-of-way. Its pavement-cut restrictions can affect a proposed street opening, so confirm the approved approach before excavation.

Ask whether the estimate includes surface restoration and any traffic or pedestrian arrangements. A district sewer permit and city right-of-way approval cover different parts of a project.

THE INSPECTION SHAPES THE REPAIR

Match the repair to the findings.

Inspection, clearing and repair are different tasks. Ask why the proposed method fits the condition of your pipe. Specific methods and equipment availability need confirmation.

01

Inspection and clearing

Camera footage can show visible conditions in an accessible line. Clearing may be needed before inspection; restoring flow does not repair a broken pipe.

02

A targeted repair

An isolated defect may support repair of one section. Ask what length is included and whether the remaining pipe is suitable to stay in use.

03

Replacement options

Trenchless methods can reduce excavation, but access, pipe condition, alignment, utilities and local standards matter. Ask where digging and restoration are still needed.

A MORE USEFUL FIRST CONVERSATION

Have the details.
Know what to ask.

You do not need to diagnose the problem before asking for help. If sewage is backing up, stop using affected plumbing, avoid contact and keep children and pets away.

  • Describe which fixtures are affected, when the problem started and whether it has returned after clearing.
  • Have your city or ZIP code, prior footage and repair records ready. Confirm the sewer district for the actual property.
  • Ask about assessment charges, written scope, permits, inspection or testing, restoration and exclusions.
  • For a shared line or managed property, establish who can approve the work.

LOCAL QUESTIONS, CLEARER ANSWERS

Sewer repair
in San Ramon.

What affects the cost of sewer repair in San Ramon?

The cost depends on the pipe section, depth, access, repair method, permits and restoration. Ask about any visit or diagnostic fee before booking, then request a written estimate for the identified scope.

Does a camera inspection repair the sewer?

A camera inspection records visible conditions; it does not repair the pipe. Ask to review the findings and understand any part of the line the inspection could not assess.

Is trenchless repair suitable for every San Ramon home?

No. The actual pipe and site determine suitability. A neighborhood name alone does not establish pipe material, condition or the cause of a backup.

Should I report a suspected public sewer problem?

Yes. Contact the wastewater agency serving the property if the problem may involve its public sewer. Have the address and observed symptoms ready so it can assess the next step.
